DITO Telecommunity

DITO Telecommunity is the less popular of the biggest telecom companies of the country. DITO Telecommunity is currently giving service ONLY in Manila.

Phisical SIM Card

Your phone, tablet, or laptop might not support eSIM cards. In that case, your only options would be to use Wi-Fi, roam with your home country SIM card, or get a new SIM card from a Filipino telecom company.

There are numerous places across the country to purchase a brand-new SIM card, and Coron is no exception.

The networks with the best signal in Coron and Busuanga are Smart and Globe. Other internet providers like TnT or TM are also available, but they operate on the networks of the first two. So it is recommended to consider only to purchase a SIM card of Globe or Smart.

Buying a new SIM/eSIM card in the Philippines is very inexpensive, and the data plans available after registering it are also quite affordable. SIM cards at Telecom Retail stores typically cost less than 80 (around 1€/1.2$) and often include a few GB of data as part of the price.

When you need additional data, you can purchase it directly through the Operator’s app. For example, one of the most popular data and call plans costs 149 (2€/2.5$) and includes up to 28GB of data, unlimited calls to any local network, unlimited SMS, and is valid for 7 days. It is very faii/

Sadly, no. In almost all international terminals of the country, there are booths from various networks. Unfortunately, they tend to overcharge tourists with unreasonable prices. They sell something called a “tourist SIM card with a data plan,” which can cost between 1000₱ – 2000₱ (up to 30€/36$) for a two-week plan with 40GB. As you can see, this is significantly more expensive than purchasing a SIM card and data plan at a store outside the hotel.

Based on our experience, Smart and Globe are the only options worth considering. If we dig deeper, we would recommend choosing the Globe SIM Card. However, it’s important to note that both are a few steps behind compared to services in any Western country. Hopefully, they begin improving their networks nationwide, as the Philippines is much more than just Manila.

Both will operate on the same network, so the quality of service will be mediocre in either case. If your device supports eSIM, it can be convenient to get a signal as soon as you arrive in the country, which is the main advantage of the eSIM option.
